Marathon’s Marine Transportation Organization, located in Catlettsburg, KY, has an immediate opening for a Port Captain.
The Port Captain must have a high school diploma, demonstrated leadership and communication skills. A Captain’s license and Marine Industry experience are required. The qualified applicant must be able to set and organize priorities, possess excellent time management skills and the ability to work with confidential information.
This position is responsible for the safe operation of Marathon’s fleet of towboats on the Western Rivers and Inland waterways. The person will be responsible for: ensuring that vessels are properly staffed for continuous, safe operation; oversight of wheelhouse personnel and boat employment/promotions; navigation and supervisory skills development training for junior Pilots; Steersmen evaluations and serving as the Company’s Designated Examiner for Coast Guard licenses; administration of the crew endurance management program; boat operations policies/procedures; incident response; acting as Company spokesperson at various industry meetings/regulatory agencies; interface with local staff, management, governmental authorities and all personnel assigned to operate Marathon’s boats. In addition, this position assist the Boat Operations Manager as otherwise directed.

The main service consists in assisting the Offshore Head of Maintenance & Inspection in the implementation of the Maintenance and Inspection tasks in general, and in particular on the following pieces of equipment: the FPSO hull and its associated machineries, the process utilities, the marine equipment including the buoy (SBM).
Complementarily, the assistance may be extended, as the case may be, to technical support on other systems including process systems, and to the coordination with the Marine Certification Authorities.
The duty include the monitoring of the equipment, the supervision of the works performed by the various contractors, and a significant contribution to improvements by drafting procedures or revised works plans, training of staff, and other similar duties.
The candidate:
• Education: Certified Chief engineer• Training: BOSIET• Professional experience (total number of years): 10 years experience at sea, including at least 5 years on trading tanker• Language: English – fluent level
